On 2 December, the 4th Dubrovnik Winter Festival opened after lighting of the 1st Advent candle symbolising hope in a new location – in front of Dubrovnik Cathedral. The ceremony was enhanced by the appearance of a children's choir consisting of attendants of the Christmas carols and songs workshop organised by Matica Hrvatska. The City shone with dazzling lights after the holiday illumination switch on in the Stradun, where Gibonni appeared in a spectacular concert.

In spite of rain and cold weather, the Dubrovnik Winter Festival began with song and in a cheerful mood, which will continue throughout December. Much to the joy of the youngest visitors, an ice skating rink in the Bay of Lapad opened. Its working hours are from 9.00 am to 10.00 pm. The Dubrovnik Winter Festival was also launched in Nova Mokošica, featuring a variety of children's and music programmes entitled Sunday Advent Afternoons in Mokošica.
