The second weekend of the 4th Dubrovnik Winter Festival abounds in varied programmes for all generations. In addition to lighting of the 2nd Advent candle symbolising peace, concerts of Jacques Houdek and Massimo, Saturday's charity Cake Party in the Stradun and many other events, extensive festival programmes for all generations will also be organised in the Bay of Lapad and Mokošica.
The 10th charity Cake Party, organised by the Dubrovnik Tourist Board, will be held in front of St Blaise's Church on Saturday at 11.00 am. This is the opportunity to not only enjoy a large variety of cakes and sweet delicacies, but to confirm that helping those in need is also sweet. The Cake Party's sweet programme will be followed by an entertaining DJ programme and appearances of the Lazareti Dance Studio and the Step 'n' Jazz Dance Studio. In front of Dubrovnik Cathedral, where Advent Wreath is placed this year, the 2nd Advent candle symbolising peace will be lighted on Saturday at 7.30 pm. It will remind residents of Dubrovnik of Marin Držić's verses about war and human nature.
This weekend's music programme will feature some of the finest Croatian pop singers. The famous Jacques Houdek will appear on Friday at 9.00 pm in the Stradun, the Festival's main venue, where Massimo will entertain the Festival visitors on Saturday at the same time. An outstanding Spiritual Music Concert, organised by the Effatha Catholic Prayer Community, will be held in the same location on Sunday at 8.00 pm, featuring Alan Hržica, Petar Buljan and Stijepo Gleđ-Markos and Friends.
Festivities are incomplete without caroling. This weekend's carolers include members of the Lero Trio, who will sing favourite Dubrovnik carols at Brsalje, Gundulić Square and Prijeko on Friday from 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm. Klapa Karaka will appear in the same venues and at the same time on Saturday, while Klapa Maestral will enhance Advent Saturday morning in the Old City with Christmas carols from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon.
The Bay of Lapad is especially lively and merry on Saturday. This weekend's participants will include members of the Luka Sorkočević Art School Ballet Department and the Čudesni Koraci Dance Association. A Christmas Songs Concert featuring children's and youth choirs will be held on a holiday stage next to the fountain from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm. This week's Sunday afternoon in Nova Mokošica is reserved for the children's interactive play Santa's Letter / Audition for Santa by the Osijek Theatre Company. Beginning at 3.00 pm, the play will be performed on the sports ground near the Kiss Café, where all other Advent programmes in Mokošica will be held. Klapa Subrenum will appear there at 5.30 pm.
Let us remind you that this Sunday, moms, dads, grandpas, grandmas and all other people of goodwill can bring their children to Teddy Bear Park at Pile again. Each Sunday, the youngest visitors can meet Santa's helpers, elves and their favourite fairy tale characters there from 11.00 am to 12.00 noon.
